| Is that an elephant in my roof? |
You usually hear it at night. You wake up to these loud thumps in the roof above your bedroom, in the wall by your bed or (worse still) lights going on and off in another room!
No, it's not elephants stampeding across your ceiling. It's probably not spooks or ghosts, but it's most likely a rat. Yes, a rat - or a possum. But I'll bet it's a rat.
Rats like to come into your roof space as the nights become cooler to take advantage of the warmth rising from the interior of your house. They often sleep at your place and dine next door - especially if your neighbour has a fruit or nut tree, a grape vine or keeps birds or other grain-eating pets. Rats love to eat fruit, nuts and grains and, like us, appreciate warm, dry and undisturbed places to nest and sleep. What better place than your roof? How often do you sleep up there? Less now after reading this article you say.
So, if you hear the little "elephants" in your roof, ring Westate Pest Control on 08 6365 4800 or email us on info@westatepest.com.au as soon as possible and we'll come and bait the infested areas to control them.
Westate uses baits that cause chronic poisoning in doses that target the rat population and encourage death outside of the building, not in your roof.
You can also help to reduce rat infestations by harvesting your fruit, nuts and grapes as soon as they are ripe, cutting down vines on house walls, cutting back overhanging tree branches and blocking up open eaves. Also keep stored grains in sealed plastic containers.
Please feel free to ring and ask for any rat control advice - we are always happy to help you without any obligation. Then you might sleep much better at night.
